Upgrading to Ubuntu Lucid

Sadly this isn't to be a blog of joy, more a blog of "must do better".

Today we upgraded one of our servers from Ubuntu Hardy (8.04 LTS) to Lucid (10.04 LTS) and we hit a few issues.

First of all, we carefully read the Release Notes, nothing of relevance there.

We then followed the Upgrade process. This went fine for a little while but then it started to fail badly - any package install failed with:
 

Getting Things Done with Tracks

Overview

Tracks is an Open Source GTD(Getting Things Done) program. Speaking personally, I'm a huge fan of Dave Allen's book - the GTD system and way of thinking has made me far more productive and effective. More importantly I feel so much more in control - no more worrying! GTD really requires some programs to allow you to use it - Tracks has worked very well for us.

Redmine project management

Overview

Redmine is a powerful project management system. It is similar to the popular Trac, however it looks much more professional and is certainly easier to navigate.

Problem

There are no Ubuntu (nor Debian) packages of Redmine available, though some are in progress. Additionally as Redmine uses a Ruby on Rails framework, there are additional complexities ensuring that the Rails framework is current.
